Exclusive- Sara reveals why she’s jealous of Atrangi Re co-star Akshay; shares her experience of working with Aanand L Rai

The much anticipated trailer of Atrangi Re was dropped by the makers two weeks ago and it was definitely worth the wait. Bollywood’s Khiladi Akshay Kumar and South superstar Dhanush were in full form, but it was Sara Ali Khan ’s portrayal of Rinku in the 3 minute long clip that blew us away. She left us intrigued to know more about her quirky yet loveable character. The actress had a gala time shooting for this Aanand L Rai directorial. Adorable pictures of the filmmaker and actress from the sets are proof of the same. Well, ahead of the release of the romantic comedy drama, Desimartini caught up with Sara for an exclusive chat.

During our interview, Sara opened up about her experience of working with the ace filmmaker. The actress stated, “I had a blast working with him. I think as people, I can’t compare myself to him because he’s extremely experienced, but I think as people in general we are very simple people, both of us. We are very honest. We are not technical as people, you know, whether as actors or as directors. And that was beautiful, to be able to connect with somebody that said forget the continuity, do what you feel is honest to the moment, main edit mein sambhaal lunga.” She went on to add, “He’s one of the most sensitive people that I’ve worked with and therefore he understands emotions. You know, he used to say things to me like ‘tere zaban pe gaali hai, lekin tumhaari aankhon mein naa nami hai kyunki tu ro rahi hai, mujhe woh chahiye’. So I have somebody so clear, it’s very rare and very beautiful.”

When asked if she would want to work with Aanand L Rai again, Sara replied, “I would want to work with him immediately if he was to work with me.” Like Akshay Kumar, we asked? Sara shared, “Like Akshay Kumar! I am so jealous of Akshay Kumar. I think because, you know, Aanand ji spoils you. I think as an actor, he spoils you because, especially with Atrangi Re. There is so many subtext, so much meat, there’s body language, there’s dialect, there’s dialogue, there’s emotion, there’s song, there’s color-- there is everything an actor would crave, Atrangi has, Rinku has. Toh yeh jab aap paa lete ho, toh aap itne greedy ho jaate ho naa ki aapko bas yeh hi chahiye. Mujhe abhi chahiye Aanand ji ki dusri film.”

Well, we hope Aanand ji and Sara get the chance to collaborate with each other soon again!
