Karan Johar Spends Rs. 1.5 Crore On Rishi Kapoor’s Make-Up

Rishi Kapoor’s look from Karan Johar’s upcoming titled ‘Kapoor and Sons’ is out and the veteran actor looks unrecognisable in his new getup. Rishi Kapoor’s make-up which included several layers of thin silicon has been done by Academy award-winner Greg Cannom, who has also contributed to Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming ‘Fan’. Apparently, Johar had spent Rs. 1.5 crores on Rishi Kapoor’s make-up.

Rishi has revealed that it was his suggestion to rope in Cannom. “I was not sure about this suggestion being agreed upon since it would be a costly affair. But Karan agreed even though he knew that this would cost him around Rs 1.5 to Rs 1.75 crore”, he added.

Sharing the experience, Rishi Kapoor told Mid-day, “During the shoot, I had to sit for five hours every day for almost a month and I had to wake up at 5 am. I am a drinking man and people say I have no patience, but for me to wake up early every day and sit for five hours straight was a bit of a task. It would take that much time to put the make-up on and then about an hour to remove it at the end of the day”.

He further added that filming with the getup was even more problematic. The veteran actor said, “Throughout the film I would be fighting with the director. Every scene, every shot we fought. My problem was that he would take the entire scene from every angle which made me uncomfortable. I might be old fashioned, but I cannot create spontaneity if you are going to shoot from every angle. We were on the same page as actors but not as far as execution was concerned. However, the end product is what matters”.
