One has to really stand out to get noticed on television: Salil Ankola

Former cricketer-turned- television actor Salil Ankola, who has been doing shows for a decade now, feels competition has only grown over the years. The 48-year-old actor says, “When I started acting, there were few channels and less competition. Now, there are so many channels and new actors, so it’s tougher. Even the audience has matured. The whole scenario has become more demanding and professional. One has to really stand out to get noticed,”says Ankola, who plays the role of Surya Dev in mythological show Karmafal Daata Shani.

Salil, who played for India between 1989 and 1997, says he has thoroughly enjoyed his journey in the television industry. “It has been a fantastic ride. I never thought I would act but I’ve spent more years acting than I’ve played cricket for my state and country,” says Salil, who has featured in shows such as C.I.D.: Special Bureau, Ssshhhh...Koi Hai and Savitri.

He adds, “I get to portray different characters on screen — living the characters and seeing the audience loving them is amazing. So, it’s been a blessing for me to have been a part of the two of the most popular professions in India.”
