Working with Amitabh Bachchan no less than getting a National Award: Angad Bedi

Actor Angad Bedi is on cloud nine for all the right reasons. The actor recently visited Rashtrapati Bhavan (in Delhi) for a special screening of the film Pink (2016) for President Pranab Mukherjee and he calls it one of the most treasured experiences of his life. “It’s a great feeling to know that you have done something good for the society and to be part of a film, which has got enormous respect and adulation. , I’ve shared the same stage with Mr. (Amitabh) Bachchan and now with the President too. So there’s a lot of moral responsibility attached to it.”

The film also stars actors Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Amitabh Bachchan and Piyush Mishra in lead roles. With the kind of stir it has created and still continues to create after five months of its release, Bedi says that there have been talks about the film going to various places. So how did the screening at Rashtrapati Bhavan happen? “I remember that Mr. Bachchan had sent a message to me saying that the President has expressed his desire to see the movie and we’ll all have to go to Delhi and show him the film. So consent? I said, yes sir, for you, we’ll stand wherever you want us to,” recalls Bedi.

The film was earlier screened for the Rajasthan Police and later was also invited for a special screening at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. On whether it’s time the film gets its due and bags a national award too, the 34-year-old says that depends totally on the Information and Broadcasting ministry. “A film, like Pink, deserves a pedestal like the National Award. But for me, the greatest award is sharing screen space with Mr Bachchan. I’m very fortunate to be part of a film, which has made history and my name is forever edged not just in audience’s memory but also with the living legend, Mr. Bachchan. That’s no less than a national award,” he adds.

With the hope that a powerful film like Pink reaches out to more people, Bedi feels that it has already brought about a lot of change in the society. “You see women are expressing themselves more than before, there’s freedom and the fact that you don’t take things lying down. ‘No means no’, the biggest slogan of the film has become such a big lesson. The minute you hear it, you immediately correlate it with the film, Pink. The film has its own journey and everybody is connecting with it,” says Bedi.
