Aquaman is one of the DC's oldest superhero's and is one of the founding members of the Justice League. Aquaman's origin story has been altered over the years, in the current canon he half human and half Atlantean born of a human father and an Atlantian mother and not just any woman but the queen of Atlantis herself Atlanna, however, her duties as queen force her to leave her son and return home.

As time passes and Arthur Curry aka Aquaman grows up in the surface world, his powers start to develop like super strength, the ability to breath underwater and swim at supersonic speeds and not to mention the ability to communicate with creatures of the sea. Arthur is a child of two worlds and therefore always felt like he never belonged until he is forced to fight his half-brother Orm after his mother's death for the throne.

While Aquaman comics helped change the character from just a man who can talk to fish to a gritty and complex character, a man struggling to maintain the balance between the surface world and the sea, unfortunately, his representation till the recent live-action DC films where he played by the amazing Jason Mamoa was at best OK and at worst a complete joke. so let's take a look at all the animated and live action adaptations of Aquaman through the years till DC finally got him right.

The first appearance of Aquaman was in The Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure in 1967. While the show helped in increasing his popularity he was represented as a cheesy character and his powers trivialized.

In 1973 Aquaman appeared alongside Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the other members of the Justice League however back then they were known as 'The Superfriends'. The show while popular did not help change Aquaman's goofy and at times cheesy image, in fact, it actually helped cement it.

Wanting to take advantage of his goofy image DC decided to create a sort of a parody show to change up his image among general audiences needless to say this plan backfired and the show is the source of a lot of the funny Aquaman meme's we see today.

In the early 2000s, DC attempted to revamp the character this time in the new animated series Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. This version of Aquaman was given a more Viking look with a gruff beard and a trident hook for a hand and was more of dark and broken version This alteration while this new look did help improve Aquaman's s standing ultimately it to failed to great a large enough impact.

While the animated series was trying to change up the character, his first live-action appearance took place in the hit TV show Smallville where he was portrayed by Alan Ritchson and went with the traditional appearance, while many fans were thrilled with seeing Aquaman getting representation in Live action they felt Alan Ritchson was miscast.
