6 Major Projects That Ekta Kapoor Backed Which No One Else Would
Ekta Kapoor is the undisputed Queen of the Indian Television. Since the 90s through her production house Balaji Telefilms, she has produced a record number of hit serials years after year and has provided wholesome entertainment to the Indian households. She has also successfully ventured into film production as well and is known for promoting and producing different projects.
She also launched AltBalaji, a digital streaming platform in 2017 to capture the ever-growing digital audience and now she has her presence on all three major platforms of entertainment. Through the TV serials which almost all of us have watched at least once in our lives, she has also given us some of the biggest TV and movie stars in the country. She has a knack for spotting unique content and backing it with full confidence. Here are 6 major projects that only she could have backed:
Love Sex Aur Dhokha: No one would have agreed to produce the film in the first place but Ekta readily agreed to produce it and the film with almost all the newcomers and unknown actors was greenlit. The film went on to become a hit and got a lot of critical acclaim.
Ragini MMS: Now a successful franchise which has branched into films and web series. Ekta smartly capitalized on the success of the original which was inspired by Paranormal Activity and adding a healthy dose of sex turned out to be a winning combination.
The Dirty Picture: One of the biggest hits of Vidya Balan's career, the film received a positive reception from the critics as well. Ekta took on the project inspired by one of the iconic sex sirens of India (the film is not a biography) and made sure the film was watched by the mainstream audiences.
Lootera: Highly critically acclaimed period-drama which was also called by many as the best film of 2013 would have remained in development hell had Ekta not agreed to back it. Turns out, the film is probably the career-best performances from Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh.
Udta Punjab: A highly controversial project from the start, everybody knew the movie would face difficulties during its release but the film was one of the best films of 2016 and Ekta even managed to pull off a casting coup by bringing Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor together.
Gandi Baat: The web series focuses on small town sex-stories from different parts of India and credit goes to Ekta to explore this territory as well.
