Irrfan Khan passed away in Mumbai today at the age of 53 after putting up a brave fight with colon infection. He is the man who all of us thought would defeat the rare neuroendocrine cancer and would rise to give us films that would stay with us forever. Alas, he has now gone, too soon and all we have been left with is a void that would never be filled. He will definitely live through his work- be it for TV, for Bollywood or for Hollywood. As we share the grief of the death of one of India’s finest actors, let us look back his last despite us praying and wishing otherwise.

    His last Instagram post:

He posted on this social media platform back in 2018, before he had left for London for the treatment of the neuroendocrinal tumour. While the last post was one that he shared from Alec Baldwin about his film The Puzzle, the actual last post that he had shared with his picture and his words is the one where he has posted the shadow of his face on the sand. He posted it back in March 2018 and captioned it with a long note that read,

“God speaks to each of us as he makes us,
then walks with us silently out of the night.

These are the words we dimly hear:

You, sent out beyond your recall,
go to the limits of your longing.
    Embody me.

    Flare up like a flame
and make big shadows I can move in.

Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror.
Just keep going. No feeling is final.

    Don’t let yourself lose me.

Nearby is the country they call life.
You will know it by its seriousness.

Give me your hand #rainermariarilke.” What can be more poetic and symbolic that this?

    His last film:

After the diagnosis of his cancer, Irrfan Khan had been very weak. He had been fighting a rare cancer about which much was not known. But, valiant as he is, he decided to shoot for a film. While he had cancelled on most of his projects, he stuck to Dinesh Vijan’s Angrezi Medium, that was a part of the Hindi Medium franchise that went on to become a sleeper hit. Despite his health conditions, he shot it and how. From having fun on the sets to keeping his co-stars engaged, he did it all. The film got to release in theatres on 20th March. However, it got partial release due to statewise lockdown in many parts of the nation and was finally taken off the theatres after a nationwide lockdown. It later released on OTT and received a good response there as well!

    His last message to fans:

He could not promote Angrezi Medium because of his health. However, he decided to reach his audiences with a video message. After his greeting and introduction, the first line he utters is “Aaj main aapke saath hoon bhi aur nahi bhi.” He also talked about the fight he is putting up with the ‘unwanted mehman’ that he has in him and also said how difficult it is to make lemonade when life actually hands out lemons. He had also said that whatever would happen, he would make sure everyone gets to know it. His was a message of strength and positivity. Here it is:

    His last tweet:

He had tweeted just a fortnight back and there too, he talked about the last character he played, Mr. Champak. He wrote, “Mr. Champak’s state of mind: Love from the inside, making sure to show it outside!”

Irrfan Khan would always be alive- with his work and his words. Rest in peace.
