Throwback: When Pankaj Kapur said he 'should feel nervous working with a big star' like Shahid Kapoor for Jersey

Shahid Kapoor is going to share the screen with his dad, Pankaj Kapur in the upcoming film Jersey. A remake of the Telugu film of the same name, the duo will not portray father- son on-screen but a coach and a student. Shahid Kapoor had earlier opened up about how nervous he was to share screen with his father. In fact, he also revealed how director Gowtam Tinnanuri had asked him whether he will be able to match Pankaj Kapur's performance after the latter gave his first shot. But, did you know that Pankaj Kapur has also been all praises for his son's performance as an actor.

In an older interview with us, Pankaj Kapur had opened up about working with Shahid for Jersey. It was during the time that Shahid had said he was 'nervous' sharing screen with him. The senior actor had told us, "He is just being polite, he is being a good boy. He is very confident, very competent actor who carries himself extremely well in the sets. He is a thorough professional, he is well-prepared. If someone has to be nervous it should be me, not him. I have age behind me, but I can be nervous working with a big star, who has a number of successful films behind him. I am a tiny little so-called ‘character actor’ who has been working for maybe 40 years. Years actually don’t count, because somebody can come and sweep you off your feet just with the first performance."

Recently during the trailer launch, Shahid Kapoor said, “I am not intimidated by him (Pankaj Kapur), but I wanted to do my best. It’s amazing to stand with a great actor like him. It’s just amazing seeing what he is doing with his craft. When I worked with Irrfan sir, Tabu ma'am, Kay Kay sir, and him – it’s always a learning experience. It’s scary when you feel you are the best thing in anything. You should always learn.” Jersey releases on 31st December and also stars Mrunal Thakur.
