Rajinikanth sits on hunger strike

Protesting against Centre’s imposition of service tax on the entertainment industry, a cross section of actors from the Tamil film and television industry, including megastar Rajinikanth, Vijay, Sarathkumar, Radhika and Suhasini, today are in for a day-long hunger strike here.

The protestors are demanding that the law about the tax should be totally scrapped. Speaking in support of the strike, Rajinikanth said, "If there's a tough law to book tax defaulters, so much of money could be mobilised". The shooting of films and television serials has also been suspended for the day and cinema halls will also remain closed today.
