Exclusive: Plabita Borthakur explains how OTT platform is beneficial for new actors

Actor Plabita Borthakur, who has regaled audiences with the OTT shows like Bombay Begums, What’s Your Status, and Sutliyan among others, feels that the digital platform is beneficial for new actors like her. The actress said that the platform also offers a wide range of opportunities for different kinds of roles to prevalent actors in the film industry.

In an exclusive chat with Varsha Agarwal of Desimartini, Plabita spoke about how OTT has done wonders for new actors as well as older actors in the film industry. “With the OTT, there are a lot of opportunities. There are a lot of different kinds of content happening which earlier was not happening in films. Even films are being made which are very different and quirky. Earlier, no one wanted to experiment and actors did not have enough opportunity to do different kinds of roles which probably they wanted to do. So, OTT as a whole has been very beneficial to new actors like me, as well as for older actors who are already prevalent in the industry.”

Besides web series, Plabita has also appeared in films like Lipstick Under My Burkha , Ahaan, Waah Zindagi among others. The actress said she finds working in films and web series equally rewarding. “For me as an actor, working in films and web shows are the same. It is always rewarding when it is a nice script and a great character to work on. As long as the makers are good to work with, it does not matter whether it is film or OTT projects. The process of filmmaking is correct for me as long as the team is here to make something good, that’s what really matters to me.”

Meanwhile, Plabita is currently awaiting the release of her upcoming series, Escaype Live. The series follows a bunch of content creators, with different paths, but one single goal to produce viral content to emerge victorious in a life-changing competition. Elaborating on the concept of her upcoming series, she said, “Escaype Live is a kind of a mirror to the society, at the same time, it is fictional. It also shows us who we are and who we are becoming as human beings. It has different characters which we call users on a particular app, and what they do to gain out of their social media accounts.”

Created and directed by Siddharth Kumar Tewary, Escaype Live also stars Shweta Tripathi, Jaaved Jaaferi, and Siddharth in prominent roles. It is slated to stream on Disney + Hotstar on May 20.
