Taali Teaser: Sushmita Sen looks convincing as transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant, netizens say 'terrifying looks'

Actress Sushmita Sen on Saturday dropped the most-anticipated teaser of her upcoming film, Taali. The forty-six-second-long clip induces goosebumps as the actress gets into the avatar of transgender Shreegauri Sawant. Her convincing demeanour and powerful dialogues make this as a much-awaited spectacle among netizens.

In the teaser, Sushmita as Gauri could be seen demanding respect and freedom for the third gender. The makers also gave a glimpse of her initial days of struggle. Towards the end, she is entering the court to take on the Indian laws. “Gaali se Taali tak ke safar ki yeh kahaani.Presenting the story of Shreegauri Sawant’s fight for India’s third gender,” Sushmita captioned the teaser. Take a look:

As soon as the clip surfaced, Sushmita’s fans expressed excitement while praising her bold attempt to essay a transgender. “Like always....you do your own thing...no inhibitions..no fear....truly the queeen of her kingdom...only love and respect for you, “ wrote a fan.Another added, “My goodness that was so enthralling ❤️❤️❤️. Awaiting the release @sushmitasen47 mam. You just keep finding new ways of winning our hearts.” “Rocks …. What a Dialogue “ Bajaugi Nahi Bajvaungi” …. Right time when revolution require,” read a comment.

However, a section of people felt that the role should be played by an actual transgender. “Was there no trans actor who could've played this role? Nothing against Sushmita Sen as an actress or a person, but that's just another opportunity taken away from the trans community and given to yet another cis person,” wrote a netizen. Another added, “She is great actress . Still an actual trans actor should have played the role.” Well, a user defended Sushmita and wrote, “This is a double edged sword for those asking why no trans actor play this. Which one? LGBTQ is still a stigma and no actors have come out even as gay or queer, and you think we can get trans actor? Maybe so like many pointed out it wont be seen by many. So this is a good choice for now and the real person has even accepted and gave her blessings for sush. Until @karanjohar comes out or @manishmalhotra05 then we can't expect queer roles to be played by queer actors yet. Sadly.”

Directed by Ravi Jadhav and produced by Arjun Singgh Baran, Kartk D Nishandar, and Afeefa Suleman Nadiadwala, Taali marks Sushmita Sen's second OTT outing after Disney+ Hotstar's crime thriller Aarya. The upcoming film is set to premiere on JioCinema on Independence Day (August 15, 2023).
