4 Bollywood Film Adaptations Of Chetan Bhagat's Books And Their Lifetime Collections!
Chetan Bhagat can become that author whose books would surely be turned into a film. Though many would say that his books are only to be read on the coffee table and not have any serious literary value, it cannot be denied that he got so many people into the habit of reading! And the popularity of his novels has also resulted in the producers getting inspired to turn them to films.
The author might not enjoy the same popularity as he once shared, but more film adaptations of his books are coming up. The latest to join the list is ‘Half Girlfriend’. It will be the fifth book of his to be turned to a film.
Take a look at all the movie adaptations of his books and their box-office collection!
1. Hello (One Night At A Call Center)
This was the first Chetan Bhagat book to be made into a film. It released back on 10th October 2008. With Salman Khan and Katrina’s cameo and the popularity of the book led to a good opening despite almost negative critical reviews. The film collected approximately 6 crore in the first three days itself! It's total collection was 24.3 crore. But it was criticized for its poor characterization and although it followed the book very closely, it missed many important parts!
2. 3 Idiots (Five Point Someone)
Releasing on the Christmas Day of 2009, 3 Idiots just took the basic plot from Chetan Bhagat’s book, but was overall very different from the contents of the book. With Raju Hirani’s able direction and fantastic performances from Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi and Madhavan, this went on to become one of the highest grossing movies of all time! It collected almost a whopping 38 crore in the first weekend and has a gross collection of 294 crores.
Chetan Bhagat also had a problem when he did not get a very prominent place on the rolling credits. Hirani cleared that he had acquired the rights before making the movie and that most of the film had original ideas that did not feature in the film.
