The Dark Knight Trilogy : A Tribute

The Dark Knight Trilogy : A Tribute

The Dark Knight trilogy completes its 12 years by marking the release of Batman Begins and I write this article to pay a tribute to Christopher Nolan’s effort to recreate a symbol that has been dead for so long.

It was on June 15 2005 when Nolan gifted the world with the symbol of hope and fear. Batman Begins had all the necessary elements to reconstruct the fundamentals which explains the pursuit of justice try Christian Bale AKA Bruce Wayne. The movie was basically based on the comic “Batman : Year One” which key focus was on the origins of Batman and how the rest of the side characters come together to bring up the entire franchise.

Though Nolan created history by bringing the audience what they desired the most, he misconstrued the personality of Batman. Batman  in comics is considered as a grey character who will do the necessary when the time comes and will scare the shit out off his enemies and friends. Where as Nolan’s Batman was quite sunny with his over cooked romance with Rachel ( Katie Holmes ). Apart from this tiny flaw in the movie Nolan as always built a brilliant cast by casting the best in their fields such as Michael Kane as Alfred Pennyworth and Liam Neeson as the infamous Ra’s Al Ghul.

As the trilogy moved towards Batman : The Dark Knight the fanbase of this series are exponentially.

On 18 July 2008 Nolan created history by bringing the most impactful movie till date. The Dark Knight was as dark as it’s name suggest with all the key elements with one extraordinary character who made this move what it was. By this time it’s quite certain that actor was none other than Late Heath Ledger. The actor who made us all fall in the gravity of his madness. Introducing a little anarchy this agent of chaos was a treat to watch. Ledger took the concept of Joker’s Super Sanity ( Joker is considered to perceive the world in the most apt way and he is not insane but super sane. ) quite literally and made his mission to bring that out in his acting. The dialogues delivered by him have etched our souls for the rest of our lives and made us question the one thing joker talks about in the entire movie and that is “ WHY SO SERIOUS ? “. It’s a tragedy that this brilliant actor sacrificed his life for his role as Joker and left us with a rather mundane joker ( Jared Leto ). Still Ledger managed to bag an oscar. The movie also stirred Bruce’s emotions and showed that now he is tired of fighting crime and that joker is the last piece of the crime wave that he has tried to repress for the past so many years. The movie ends with Joker breaking batman’s soul leaving him miserable and alone. Which is where it all should have stopped. The good thing would be to bring up the concept of Batman Beyond and burying the old batman forever. But Nolan had a last trick under his sleeve. The only question unanswered in this part of the series was that how did joker got his scars. ( Do share your opinion in the comments section )

Nolan walks out the door by giving his last piece of action : The Dark Knight Rises. After being in Limbo for 8 years repenting for the death of the white knight AKA Harvey Dent ( Whose role was pretty short lived. ). Batman rises from his grave to put up his mantle and to bury his past once again. His feud with league of shadows resurfaces as the Pit spits out the two most hineous villains in the Batman Universe  : Bane (Tom Hardy with his heavy breathing) and Talia ( Ra’s Al Ghul’s Daughter). Bane takes over the crime devoid Gotham and breaks Batman’s hope. But he rises again and this time with Catwoman ( Anne Hathway) by his side. Anne Hathway establishes her self as this seductively cunning Catwoman and god we loved her for this or what. Batman fights for his city and brings back the city to a reign of peace by getting rid of Bane and Talia. Finally Nolan gives up his control on batman by retiring him and leaving us all on a cliff hanger by intoducing a new John Blake ( Joseph Gordon Levitt )  who might take up the mantle of Robin. The only thing sad about this franchise is that it ended at a turning point where it could change the course of the entire crime fighting heart throbbing action. I wish Nolan continued his journey and finished what he started by bringing together Batman and his inseparable partner.

The best part about Christopher Nolan is that he has this set of actors he is comfortable working with and these actors are so experienced that they can absorb such intriguing characters making them so diverse yet unique in their own way.

Nolan was generous enough to give the audience this beautiful trilogy and we could than him enough. His work is still appreciated after 5 years of release of his last film of this renowned trilogy. Nolan made it so huge that The Dark knight is the only super hero movie to make it into the list of top 100 movies in the history of Cinema. As a huge Batman fan I would like to thank Christopher Nolan and the entire cast for evoking this visual treat that all of us were in dire need off.
