Get set to witness insides of Kurt Cobain

An authorized documentary about Kurt Cobain, “Montage of Heck,” will debut on HBO next year. Kurt Cobain has been the subject of many films, including a fictionalized version of himself in Gus Van Sant’s Last Days and a controversial 1988 documentary called Kurt & Courtney.

Now, HBO is releasing the first fully-authorized documentary of the Nirvana frontman, executive-produced by his daughter, Frances Bean Cobain. At the helm is Brett Morgen, who has previously made the documentaries “Crossfire Hurricane,” about the Rolling Stones, and “The Kid Stays in the Picture.” This is the first documentary made about Cobain with his family’s cooperation. Morgen was given access to the Cobain archives, including never-before-seen home movies, recordings, artwork, photos, journals and songbooks. The film will feature dozens of Nirvana songs and performances as well as previously unheard Cobain originals.
