    It has been a spectacular opening weekend for FilmDistrict’s low-budget horror sequel Insidious: Chapter 2 which has excelled all the expectations and has gained an estimated $41.1 million. It has also emerged as the most successful horror film of September with the largest opening as of now.

    The grand opening at the domestic box-office for Insidious: Chapter 2 is credited to the huge earnings on its opening day which has been estimated as nearly half of the film’s three-day figures. Relativity Media’s Robert De Niro-Michelle Pfeiffer starrer The Family was another winner of this week with an estimated $14.5 million opening through Sunday, above all expectations. According to the CinemaScore, Insidious 2 scored a ‘B+’ and The Family received a ‘C’. Both these films were followed by Riddick which grossed an estimated $7 million this week. On the other hand Lee Daniels’ The Butler crossed the $100 million mark at the domestic box-office this weekend earning $5.6 million through Sunday.
