Warner Bros.'s canceled HBO Max exclusive Batgirl movie had a lot of buzz surrounding it, mainly due to the return of Micheal Keaton as Batman and the villain Firefly played by Brendan Fraser.

The sudden shelving of the project disappointed a lot of DC fans, who were looking forward to returning to Tim Burton's dark take on the Caped Crusader.

In a recent interview with Insider the director of the project Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah revealed that they felt sad that they could not be a part of the DC Universe when asked about The Flash.

Batgirl was a more grounded take on the superhero genre and would have been set in Tim Burton's Batman Universe, with Micheal Keaton's Batman acting as a mentor to Leslie Jones's Batgirl.

The movie was set to release after The Flash but was pulled after the Discovery takeover of Warner Bros. in April of last year.

The Studio's official reason for the project's cancelation was that it did not hold up to their standards, a reason which considering the quality of the recent DC big screen releases, fans doubt. The directors also revealed that the project was never in the final stages and that it needed a lot more work, They also did not rule out the possibility of helming another DC project.

The last three entries in the old DCEU lineup Shazam 2, The Flash, and Blue Beetle underperformed at the box office and have led to rumors that the studio will not be putting in too much effort or money to promote the final movie of the DCEU Aquaman 2.

Early reactions from test screening for Aquaman 2 have been negative, with many calling the movie one of the worst movies in the superhero genre.

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom have also been getting little to no love from DC fans who have given up on the old DCEU and are looking to James Gunn to pull off a miracle with his DC reboot.
