Twilight turns 15: Franchise director reveals who can play Bella and Edward if the movie goes for a reboot

The Twilight franchise still remains a source of nostalgia for us when it comes to our tryst with pop culture. From fantasizing about a vampire boyfriend to being torn between Team Edward and Team Jacob, we had done it all. As the franchise turns 15 years old, director Catherine Hardwicke who had helmed the Twilight movies spoke about who can play Bella Swan and Edward Cullen if the movie goes for a reboot today.

Jacob Elordi as the new Edward Cullen?

In an interaction with the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, the director was asked who she wishes to play Edward and Bella if the movie goes down for a reboot. When asked if Jacob Elordi and Jenna Ortega could be a good option, Catherine was quick to say, “Oh, that would be perfect.” Speaking more about the Kissing Booth actor, she said, “I mean, he’s amazing. He probably would be Edward today.”

Jenna Ortega to be the new Bella Swan?

Catherine said that many people come to her mind when she thinks of who can play the lead characters of the Twilight franchise in case of a reboot. She recalled an incident wherein model Lewis Tan had auditioned for the role of Jacob Black which ultimately landed in Taylor Lautner’s lap. The filmmaker said, “It would’ve changed anyone’s life if they got that part.” Speaking of the Wednesday actor, Hardwicke said, “I do think there’s a lot of really cool young actors today. Of course, you just mentioned Jenna Ortega, she’s amazing.”

Hardwicke shared some interesting anecdotes regarding the movie too. The Thirteen director said that she knew Kristen Stewart would be her Bella quickly when she saw the latter in the trailer of the 2007 film Into The Wild. Even though Edward’s part was a tough one to find, the director knew that Robert Pattinson would be her Edward once he shared an intense chemistry with Stewart during their script reading session. For the unversed, the duo also dated for four years while working on the movies.
