'I tried and I failed’: Shah Rukh Khan reveals how Jawan co-star Vijay Sethupathi overpowered him in a scene

As Jawan inched closer to hitting the Rs 700 crore mark, Shah Rukh Khan, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Padukone, Atlee, and other cast and crew members addressed the media in Mumbai on Friday. Speaking at the event, Shah Rukh Khan heaped praises on his co-star Vijay Sethupathi. He also revealed a scene in which he tried hard to match Vijay's calibre but failed.

While addressing the media, Shah Rukh mentioned the scene where Vijay’s character Kaalie meets Aishwarya(Deepika Padukone) for the first time in jail and emotes how a person looks after being hanged to death. Vijay makes a face by widening his eyes and pulling out his tongue, which he failed to make. “I tried and I failed in the scene where Vijay looks at Deepika and I tried so much in that scene, I couldn’t do it. My eye was going wrong and you can see in the film it ‘s not like how Vijay sir had done. I could not do what he had done. I gave my best though but after two three takes Atlee also gave up. “Sir, we will leave it to Vijay only, you just do what you can.”

Shah Rukh also revealed his favourite scene featuring Vijay from the film. “ Two three places in the film, he is magical. I think I have learned a lot while working with him. I told him “Next film you will see I have become a way better actor, you are making me dangerous now.” I love the time when he is getting beaten up in the climax scene and he says, “Koi roko inko, warna ye gaana shuru kar denge yahape.”

Meanwhile, Jawan is an actioner featuring Shah Rukh in the dual roles of father and son. While Vijay essays the role of an antagonist. Directed by Atlee, the film also stars Nayanthara, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani and Eijaz Khan among others in the supporting cast. Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Dutt appear in cameo roles. Backed by Red Chillies Entertainment, the film was released on September 7, 2023, in theatres.
