Outsider vs.Outsider: How Kartik Aaryan won with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and why Kangana Ranaut lost with Dhaakad

It was a massive clash between both the self-made stars Kartik Aaryan ’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Kangana Ranaut starrer Dhaakad at the box office as well as in the audience’s hearts on May 20, 2022. Needless to say, Kartik’s horror-comedy flick toppled Kangana’s female-led actioner and quite deplorably so. While Kartik’s movie is fast inching towards the Rs 100 crore club, Kangana’s film is just standing at a meager Rs 1-2 crore. Now, let’s decode what went so wrong for Kangana and why Kartik emerged so victorious in what can be termed as his biggest opening ever.

While it is undeniable that Kangana Ranaut is truly a powerhouse of a performer but it is not a hidden fact that her being overly vocal on political and controversial issues has time and again irked people in the wrong way. The Tanu Weds Manu Returns actress was seen taking a dig at some members of the film and media fraternity while promoting her movies. One could often witness the controversial aspect of her promotional campaigns overpowering the actual subject of her upcoming movie. It is a matter to ponder upon whether it was this ‘aggressive’ and ‘opinionated’ stance of the actress which might have rubbed people the wrong way. Not to forget, her comparing herself to Gal Gadot, Meryl Streep and Tom Cruise left the majority sections of the netizens in a stray of disbelief.

On the other hand, Kartik Aaryan might have gained popularity with the Pyaar Ka Punchnama franchise which was also led by other male protagonists but what made him stand apart and skyrocket his career with a string of successful movies ahead. The Sonu Ki Titu Ki Sweety actor despite achieving massive success has been found to display a sense of approachableness and grounded charm around himself. Be it obliging his fans for pictures and maintaining a private stance around some of his controversies, the audience and the film fraternity never got a problematic streak from the actor.
