Emraan Hashmi is currently on a promotional spree for his upcoming web series Showtime. The series revolves around the subject of nepotism in the entertainment industry. In the latest interview, he, however, took a sharp dig at Kangana Ranaut who has often been known for sparking a debate on this topic.

In a conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Emraan recalled that Kangana got a lead role in her debut film Gangster and her character had more importance in the movie than his. For the unversed, Gangster also starred Emraan in a pivotal role. The Jannat star said, “I like Kangana a lot personally, as an artist. Maybe she might have had some bad experiences in the film industry. I have worked with her on Gangster. In that film, she had a more important lead role than me. That is why she got an exposure with that film.”

Furthermore, Hashmi added that Kangana should not blame the entire film industry for all the wrongdoings. The Murder actor said, “So, I don’t think that only the ones favoured with nepotism gets the chance. However, Kangana might have her own opinion, but putting the blame on the entire industry is wrong. There might be a few. Not all are drug addicts in the industry.”

It was in 2017 when Kangana called Karan Johar the flag-bearer of nepotism after she appeared on his popular chat show Koffee With Karan. Ever since then, she has time and again called out the filmmaker-producer and other Bollywood insiders for nepotism. She has also allegedly accused them of running a negative smear campaign against her movies and her image in the industry.

Apart from Gangster, Kangana and Emraan have worked together in movies like Raaz: The Mystery Continues, Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, and Ungli. On the work front, Emraan’s web series Showtime also stars Mouni Roy and Mahima Makwana. Kangana on the other hand is gearing up for her movie Emergency which has also been directed by her.
