    Rathnam 2024

Tamil actor Vishal’s latest outing Rathnam, helmed by popular director Hari, is all set to make its digital debut on Amazon Prime Video, starting from May 23, 2024. Following the lukewarm responses the film received upon its initial release, the film will now make its OTT release less than a month after its theatrical run. Rathnam was initially released in Tamil and Telugu on April 26, 2024.

    Rathnam’s Plot

Directed by Hari, this Vishal-starrer action drama revolves around Rathnam, who works as a henchman to MLA Panner Selvam, played by Samuthirakani. The movie is about how he tries to save a girl, Janani (Priya Bhavani Shankar), from a bunch of goons. Rathnam is a quintessential Hari film, with the director taking bits and pieces from his previous movies and incorporating them into this movie. Hari, who is known for portraying angry young men ready to slash anyone who comes in their way, has employed the same style in this actioner as well.

However, upon the film’s release, the movie was heavily criticized for its outdated storyline that lacks emotions. The mixed reviews resulted in the film becoming an average grosser at the box office.

Rathnam marks the third collaboration between Hari and Vishal after Thamirabharani and Poojai. The film was backed by Karthik Subbaraj's Stone Bench Production and Kaarthekeyan Santhanam's Zee Studios.

    Cast and Crew of Rathnam

Besides Vishal and Priya Bhavani Shankar, the film also stars Samuthirakani, Yogi Babu, and Gautham Vasudev Menon in supporting roles. National Award-winning composer Devi Sri Prasad, who earlier worked with Hari on Aaru, Singam, and Venghai, has scored the music for Rathnam. M. Sukumar serves as the cinematographer, while TS Jay has handled the editing. Hari has also written the dialogues for Rathnam.
