Actor Rhea Chakraborty , who has been accused in a drug case related to actor Sushant Singh Rajput 's death, has been granted permission to travel to Abu Dhabi to attend the IIFA awards show.

A special court under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act on Wednesday has approved the actress’s application seeking to travel abroad for the international event. The actress has been allowed to travel from June 2-June 5 only. She has been asked to submit her itinerary and travel details and also been asked to report to the Indian Embassy every day for attendance. She has also been asked to provide a cash security deposit of Rs 1 lakh.

Rhea had filed a plea seeking to travel for the event after she was invited by the director and co-founder of IIFA to walk the green carpet and present an award on June 3. She has also been invited to host interaction during the main ceremony on the following day, hence she requested the return of her passport and permission to travel. Special judge AA Joglekar granted the permission while directing her to be back by June 6. She will also have to surrender her passport again then.

According to Etimes, Rhea’s application for travel permission was granted considering her significant setbacks to her acting career and financial losses due to the present criminal prosecution. “Opportunities such as these are extremely important for the Applicants future prospects in the Film Industry and greatly impact her ability to earn her own livelihood. It would not be out of place to mention that the Applicants aged parents are also financially dependent on her. That the Applicant is permanent resident of Mumbai and she has deep roots in society. Hence, there is no reason to believe that she will abscond or flee from justice.” reads her travel permission application.

Rhea was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau in September last year for allegedly procuring drugs for her boyfriend, late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The actress was granted bail by the Bombay High Court almost a month after her arrest.

Meanwhile, Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, was found dead in his apartment in suburban Bandra on June 14, 2020. The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) is probing the case pertaining to his death.
