Over the last few years, filmmaker Aditya Dhar has been facing challenges in finalising the actor for the titular role of his epic drama, The Immortal Of Ashwatthama. The film was announced in 2019 with Vicky Kaushal in the lead role, however, the project was put on the back burner because of the pandemic. Later, when the makers decided to revive the project, Ranveer Singh replaced Vicky Kaushal, but still, things didn’t fall into place. And now the makers are keen to cast the South superstar Allu Arjun as Ashwatthama, which is based on the mythological character of the same name from Mahabharata.

According to the latest reports, the Pushpa actor is in talks with Jio Studios to play the titular role. “The filmmaker and top officials at Jio Studios are in talks with Allu Arjun to play the lead. The conversations are in the initial stages at the moment, and Allu has shown some interest in the unique and ambitious world of the film. The conversation could materialize into something fruitful or could just fizzle out too, but, a couple of meetings have already taken place over the last few months,” a source told Pinkvilla.

The source also added that The Immortal of Ashwatthama is one of the biggest films of Indian cinema and Allu’s involvement will take the stakes a lot higher. For the unversed, Aditya has been working on this project for the last five years and created a world by bringing Ashwatthama as a superhero back in modern times. It will be a two-part film backed by Jio Studios.

Meanwhile, Allu is currently shooting for Pushpa: The Rule with director Sukumar. Up next, he will start shooting for films with directors Trivikram and Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Reportedly, he has also shot for a cameo scene in Atlee’s upcoming action thriller Jawan starring superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
