Thor: Love and Thunder will finally solve the mystery of why Thor and Jane Foster broke up

While we know the real-world reason we didn't see Jane Foster in the MCU is that actress Natalie Portman was not interested in returning to the role, fans have often speculated on the in-movie reason.

Well, it seems that the wait is over, in a recent interview Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman revealed that we will find out what happened between the couple in Thro: Love and Thunder.

The last time we saw the couple together was in Thor: The Dark World. It was hinted in Avengers: Age of Ultron that the couple had broken up.

In the interview with D23 Magazine (via The Direct), Chris Hemsworth explained that through a series of flashbacks the movie will explain why the relationship between the two did not pan out.

"There actually wasn't a whole lot of evidence to definitively say, 'This is how they broke up. This is what happened.' It was left open for interpretation, which was great because it allowed us to go on this fun journey; 'What did their relationship look like when they were together? What did it look like when they were breaking up? Why did they break up?' It's some of the funniest stuff in the film."

Portman added, "It was really fun to get to imagine the parts of their relationship we hadn't seen...and the hard parts of a scientist dating an otherworldly superhero."

The movie does open up the opportunity for them to rekindle their relationship. But fans speculate that Thor will start a relationship with his childhood friend Sif. It was hinted in the previous Thor movies that Sif had unrequited feelings for Thor.

In the comic books the two were in a relationship and his Norse mythology Sif is the wife of Thor. Sif recently returned to the MCU in the series Loki on Disney + with actress Jaimie Alexander reprising her role. 

The cast of Thor: Love and Thunder include Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe , and Natalie Portman.

Tho: Love and Thunder will hit the big screen on July 8th.
