    Avatar: The Way of Water is the first of four planned sequels to 2009s Avatar, The sequel is set a decade after the vents of the first movie.

    The first Avatar was a massive worldwide hit and went on to become the theatres grossing movie of all time with a massive 2.8 Billion dollar collection.

    Now while the sequel is anticipated by many, there are those who doubt the movie will have the same impact as the first.

    Mostly due to the pandemic as well as the fact the original movie came out 13 years ago.

    But this was also the case before the first Avatar movie came out with many wondering if the movie could earn a profit considering its massive budget.

    Many had even called the movie a vanity project for James Cameron .

    However, the movie ended up proving everyone wrong, speaking in a recent interview Cameron addressed his plan to make four sequels in a row by joking saying it was “the dumbest business case in history.”'

    He went on to acknowledge the financial risk of the project and that he is well aware of the fact the movie could fail.

    Speaking with Empire the director talked about the box office predictions for the upcoming sequel

    "If we did 20 percent or 30 percent less because the market simply doesn't exist anymore, that would be bad.

    "The trolls will have it that nobody gives a s*** and they can't remember the characters' names or one damn thing that happened in the movie ... Then they see the movie again and go, 'Oh okay, excuse me, let me just shut the f*** up right now.' So I'm not worried about that."

    Avatar two boasts an ensemble cast that includes Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Cliff Curtis.

    Avatar: The Way of Water will hit theaters on December 16, 2022.
