Despite mixed reviews, Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dunki has managed to record Rs 30 crore opening collection as per early estimates. The film turned out to be Shah Rukh’s lowest opening movie of 2023 after his two blockbusters- Pathaan and Jawan. However, it will be interesting to see it’s box office performance from Friday as Prabhas’ Salaar opens globally.

As per the industry tracker Sacnilk, Dunki earned Rs 30 crores from all the languages. The report further stated that it had an overall occupancy of 25.71%. Amid so much hype, the film has opened less than Pathaan, Jawan and even less than Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal. Jawan opened at Rs 75 crore, Pathaan minted Rs 57 crore, Gadar 2 collected Rs 40 crore and Animal registered Rs 63 crore in its opening collection.

The box office trend of Dunki may be affected in the coming days as Prashanth Neel-directed Salaar will be taking on the theatres. As per early estimates, the film eyes bumper opening at the box office, given the hype and solid advance booking numbers. However, Dunki would run at its pace and the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays should keep the movie in good stead at the box office.

Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, Dunki is a heartwarming story about four friends, Manu, Sukhi, Buggu, and Balli, who dream of a better life in London. They take an unusual path called the Donkey Flight, an illegal immigration technique, facing challenges along the way. Besides Shah Rukh, the film also has Taapsee Pannu, Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar and Anil Grover in pivotal roles. Vicky Kaushal makes a came appearance in the film.

The DesiMartini review of Dunki reads, “Rajkumar Hirani’s first collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan deserved a better written script and screenplay. Dunki is far from being a Hirani masterpiece. However, you can watch the film in theatres with your family for the brilliant performances, some genuine moments of laughter, and Vicky Kaushal’s solid special appearance.”
