Gippy Garewal’s vocals were used in Nach Punjaban song in Jugjugg Jeeyo without agreement; singer shares shocking details

Actor and singer Gippy Garewal who has lent his voice for the Jugjugg Jeeyo ’s most popular track Nach Panjaban has said that he had no clue till the release of the film’s trailer that Dhrama Productions was planning on using his vocals. Expressing his resentment in a recent interview, Gippy said that before the promotions began for Jugjugg Jeeyo he had asked music director Tanishq Baagchi if his vocals have been used and was turned away saying they weren't.

Gippy later learnt from his brother in Australia after the trailer released that his vocals have not only been used but the entire trailer has been cut to the song. He then got in touch with Tansihq Baagchi again saying that he doesn’t want his vocals in the film and things escalated further when he learnt that the makers didn’t even have the rights to Pakistani singer Abrar Ul Haq’s original.

Gippy told Bollywood Hungama in an interview that no one called him for three months after he was requested to record the vocals for Nach Punjaban song and they didn’t even bother signing a contract with him or discussing payment. He added that it was after confronting the makers post the release of the trailer of Jugjugg Jeeyo and refusing to allow them to use his voice that they started communicating with him to settle things.

“Ek din maine dekha, poster laga hua hai ‘trailer coming tomorrow’ toh maine unke music director Tanishq ko message kiya ki ‘Bro, aapne meri vocal use ki hai?’ toh he said ‘No. Nahi use ki hai, it’s Dharma’s call.’ Maine kaha it’s fine, no problem, good luck aur next time kuch aur acha dekhnege,” Gippy said.

The Punjabi actor and singer made these revelations while talking about the work culture of Bollywood and said that the 5-6 experiences that he’s had of collaborating here have all been bad. Talking about his rection to learning that his vocals have been used in Jugjugg Jeeyo he further said -

“I messaged him [Tanishq] and didn’t say maine trailer dekh liya hai. I said, ‘Brother acha hai aapne meri vocal use nahi kari, unko bolna meri vocal use na karein mera mann nahi hai yaha gaane ka. Toh ab toh use kar li thi unhone ne. Then they called me and said, yaar ye aiese ho gaya, waise ho gaya. Saari promotion uss gaane pe ki unhone ne and no body says kisne gaya hai ye gaana, mere se koi agreement nahi sign karaya."

Later, Gippy got a call from Dharma and the matter was eventually settled but Gippy says he doesn’t understand why Bollywood is this way. He even compared Bollywood to Punjabi film industry and said that there people are all about uplifting each other.

“Pehle yahan pe film banti thi, ab yahan pe project bane lage hain. Ab hai, ke ye humare pass banda aya hai, itne mein aaya hai, bana lo kahani. Toh matlab aiese toh film nahi banti. I don’t know kyun aiese hota hai, ye Bollywood samajh aata nahi hai.”

Jugjugg Jeeyo starring Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor released in June and earned over Rs. 70 crores at the domestic box office.
