Taking forward the biopic trend, producers Ronnie Screvwala, Nitesh, and Ashwini Iyer Tiwari have roped in actor Huma Qureshi for portraying popular chef Tarla Dalal’s life story on the big screen. The film is expected to go on floors in the coming few months.

As per reports by Bollywood Hungama , the upcoming biopic will be directed by Piyush Gupta, an associate of Nitesh and Ashwini Iyer. The film is adapted from the life story of Tarla Dalal, a cookbook author known for her first book, The Pleasures of Vegetarian Cooking published in 1974. She has written over 100 books and sold more than 10 million copies since then.

Dalal, specifically known for Gujarati cuisines, also hosted several shows on several other Indian cuisines. In 2007, she was honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri by the Government of India and became the only Indian to have been conferred with a title from the field of cooking.

According to sources close to the development, Huma has been longing to do a biopic on Dalal considering she played a significant role in revolutionizing Indian cooking, particularly vegetarian food. She has already begun prepping up for the role as she has started reading and watching materials about the life of Dalal. She is also practicing her mannerism and diction to make the character convincing. As of now, the makers have not finalized the supporting cast of the film.

Meanwhile, Huma recently celebrated the Oscars win of Zack Synder’s Army of the Dead in which she played a supporting role, Geeta. Taking to her Instagram handle, she posted a snapshot of a news article announcing the win and wrote, “Omg! This just happened. We won an Oscar!! Thank you to the fans for voting...One step closer … thank you 2022,” she captioned the post.

Huma was last seen in H. Vinoth’s directorial Valimai, where she played a cop. She has an interesting lineup of projects including the second season of the web show Maharani, the OTT series ‘Monica, O My Darling', and a movie titled Double XL.
