    Rishabh Shetty ’s Kantara has amassed a huge response both from critics as well as audience and grossed Rs 400 crore at the box office. The Kannada blockbuster received praise across the globe for showcasing the rich culture of Karnataka, however, it has also been slammed for portraying a love angle that seemed regressive to a section of the audience. Recently, filmmaker Anand Gandhi slammed Shetty’s Kantara to be a celebration of masculinity and parochialism while drawing a comparison with his Tumbbad .

    Soon after the internet was flooded with tweets on Kantara vs Tumbbad debate. While some felt the two films deserve no comparison, others picked their favourites. While one user wrote, “Why few people all of a sudden comparing #kantara with #Tumbbad … it’s not even same genre… both movies has its own storyline and it’s just incomparable!!! People who are comparing are just shitheads.” Another user added, “#Tumbbad is a masterpiece Don't even compare it to #kantara Tumbbad is way more brilliant than kantara. Btw I like Kantara too but tumbbad had my heart.”

    Several social media users pointed out that the Kantara vs Tumbbad is another North vs South debate that has no end. “I don't understand the necessity of comparison between #Tumbbad and #Kantara Both are unique in its own way and let's celebrate them as a win for the story among the ridiculous movies "the big stars" are making. Or is this just another North vs South debate?,” wrote one of the users. Another commented, “This rivalry is just the smaller version new National sport of jingoism and pride fight between the north vs south. Both are phenomenal movies and yes one is better than the other but the fight is the nonsensical thread.”

    Meanwhile, Tumbbad is a period horror film Bollywood film directed by Rahi Anil Barve that portrays the greedy nature of humans even if they got the wanted items. It stars Sohum Shah and Jyoti Malshe in the lead role. On the other hand, Kantara is a Kannada action film that revolves around the Bhuta Kola (play of the spirits) traditions of Tulu Nadu, in south Karnataka.
