Ever since the new heads of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran announced the new lineup of movies for the DCU , fans of the 2005 Constantine fans were worried that the planned sequel was canceled.

Mainly because it was not mentioned in the lineup, but according to a new report by Entertainment Weekly, Fans of the movie have nothing to worry about as the movie is still going forward.

Whether or not Constine is part of the main DCU lineup or part of the Elseworlds lineup is not sure. The Elseworlds DCU lineup will focus on projects not directly connected to the main DCU like Matt Reeves Batman or Todd Phillps Joker.

However something of interest that could be connected to Constantine 2 is the planned Swap Thing project, in the comics, Swamp Thing has a big connection to John Constantine.

There could also be a possibility that this could also lead up to a Justice League: Dark movie or series, in the comics, Justice League: Dark is an alternative version of the Justice League that focuses on supernatural threats.

The 2005 Constantine movie starred Keanu Reeves as the cynical and chain-smoking exorcist who must protect humanity from dark supernatural forces.

While the movie did record mixed reviews from critics, it did gross over 230 million dollars at the box office and has gone on to be a cult hit among fans.

Director Francis Lawrence, who directed the 2005 movie will be returning to helm the sequel and also revealed that the movie is still in the early scripting stages.

He also revealed that the movie will be R-rated, he also went on to say that having a PG-13 rating was one of the reasons why the 2005 movie could not reach its full potential and the sequel aims to fix that.

We are sure to get more updates on the projects in the coming months. Meanwhile, the next DC movie to hit theaters is Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

The movie will be released worldwide on 17 March 2023.
