Kriti Sanon starrer Meena Kumari biopic to be helmed by Scam 1992 director Hansal Mehta?

It was earlier reported that Kriti Sanon is in talks to play the lead role in a Meena Kumari biopic. Now, the latest update surrounding the project is that director Hansal Mehta has been roped in to direct the same. The biopic will reportedly be bankrolled by T-series.

A source close to the development spoke to Etimes about the same saying, “Hansal has made acclaimed movies like 'Shahid', 'Aligarh', 'Omerta' and 'Chhalang' and the makers feel he is the right man to helm the Meena Kumari biopic.” Apart from that, the director has been the ideal choice to helm some ambitious projects ever since his web series Scam 1992 has tasted a massive success. On the other hand, Kriti Sanon has also been an apt choice for this biopic on ‘tragedy queen’ Meena Kumari ever since her stellar performance in the film Mimi.

The actress will further charm her fans by playing the role of Sita in the much-awaited pan-India project Adipurush opposite Prabhas and Saif Ali Khan . Kriti Sanon is reportedly also being considered for the Hindi remake of the 2003 Hollywood movie Kill Bill which starred Uma Thurman in the lead role. According to the news report by the same publication, the Bareilly Ki Barfi actress has not divulged the details of the project to anyone.

The report further stated that Kriti Sanon is quite delighted and proud of herself to have grabbed this opportunity. Talking about Meena Kumari, the legendary actress is hailed as one of the most celebrated actresses of Indian cinema of all time. She was called the ‘tragedy queen’ due to her portrayal of tragic and complex characters in her glorious filmography. Some of her best movies include Pakeezah, Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam , Baiju Bawra , Mere Apne , Footh Path, Parineeta , Dil Ek Mandir, and many more.
