Mohanlal's Spadikam re-release could end up being the superstar's first hit of 2023

    The release of the 4K remaster version of Mohanlal's cult classic 'Spadikam' is off to an impressive start at the box office

    One movie that many Malayalam movies fans were looking forward to seeing this year was the 4K remasted version of Mohanlal 's Spadikam on the big screen.

    The movie has had a cult status and popularity in Kerala ever since its original release back in 1995 and the positive reactions from audiences prove this.

    The re-release has managed to gross an impressive 77 Lakh on its opening day, despite stiff competition from Mammootty crime-thriller 'Christopher'.

    Mohanlal's first movie of 2023 was the recently released Shaji Kailas movie 'Alone', the movie was a critical and commercial flop. So the news of Spadikam's success has overwhelmed the superstar, who took to Twitter to thank fans for their love and support.

    The 1995 movie was directed by Bhadran and was one the biggest hits of Mohanlal's career. The director revealed in a recent interview that the remastered version will have an additional 8.5 minutes of new footage.

    He also said that they reshot the iconic opening sequence of the movie, he also added that he wants people to experience the remastered version on the big screen.

    This will be the first time a remaster of a Malayalam movie gets a worldwide release previously Mohanlal's 2000 action blockbuster Narasimham was also remastered but only received a limited-time screening in Dubai.

    In Sapdikam Mohanala played the role of Thomas Chacko a.k.a. Aadu Thoma who becomes a truck driver and local goon because of his troubled relationship with his strict and overbearing father C. P. Chacko, a retired Mathematics teacher.

    The movie had an ensemble cast that included Thilakan, Urvashi, Spadikam George, K. P. A. C. Lalitha, Rajan P. Dev, Nedumudi Venu, Chippy, and V. K. Sreeraman.

    According to director Bhadran, the remaster cost around two crores and was initially planned to be released way back in 2020 but had to delay due to the Pandemic.
