Despite the success of Vinneth Sreenivas's dark comedy Mukundan Unni Associates and the confirmation of a sequel by director Abhinav Sunder Nayak.

The movie found itself in controversy recently after General Secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists(AMMA), Edavela Babu called the movie too negative and that heroine of the movie should not have used a curse word in the movie's climax.

However, fans of the movie have come to its defense saying that Edavela Babu is a hypocritic and the only reason he has an issue is that the movie did not thank anyone in its opening credits and that hurt his ego.

This is not the first time Edavela Babu has made controversial statements. In 2020 he made a statement regarding actress Bhavana who was the victim of an alleged kidnapping and sexual assault saying that she was no longer a part of AMMA.

Ane went on to say "we can't bring back those who are dead" after he was asked whether the actress will be a part of the planned sequel to the 2008 superhit Twenty:20.

While Edavela Babu defended himself by saying that he was referring to the fact that the character Bhavan played in Twenty:20 was killed off in the movie, however, it was clear from his interview that he meant the actress's career was over.

Many celebrities called this out most notably Parvathy Thiruvothu who had resigned from AMMA in protest after the organization tried to reinstate actor Dileep, who has been issued of masterminding the abduction and sexual assault of actress Bhavana.

She released a statement saying "His utterly disgusting and mortifying remark comparing a woman member who had been badly let down by this organization and consequently left it, to a dead person is beyond correction".

Edavala Babu's recent statements regarding Mukundan Unni Associates have had plenty of reactions from fans, with many taking to Twitter to defend the movie along with many prominent Malayalam Youtubers making videos calling out his statements.

As for Mukundan Unni Associates, in a recent interview with TOI, director Abhinav Sunder Nayak confirmed that there are plans for a sequel and that it will be bigger and more exciting.

Mukundan Unni Associates was a critical and commercial success at the box office, the movie came out without much fanfare last November and went on to become a sleeper hit.

The movie marked the directorial debut of editor Abhinav Sunder Nayak and is a dark comedy about a shady lawyer who will do anything to get ahead in life.

In the interview, the director revealed that the sequel is still in the early stages of development and will likely start production by the end of 2024.

“We want the sequel to be bigger, better, and more exciting. We will begin the shoot only if the script comes out better than the first film.”,

The movie also has an amazing supporting cast that includes Sudheesh, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Tanvi Ram, Riah Sarah, Biju Sopanam, and Ranjith.
