RRR is one of the biggest movies of the year, becoming the third highest-grossing Indian movie of all time, and has gone on to become a well-revied movie in Hollywood.

Receiving a lot of praise from American audiences and critics, earning Indian cinema a more mainstream appeal in Hollywood that has eluded Indian movies in the past.

While Indian movies have been well received in the past by Hollywood, they were limited to NRI audiences and a few select critics, the mainstream appeal that foreign movie industries like South Korean or French movies have enjoyed had alluded to us till now.

So far RRR has been nominated Atlanta Film Critics Circle, Hollywood Critics Association Awards, The Saturn, and the New York Film Critics Circle where SS Rajamouli won Best Director.

Of all of these nominations, it was the recent announcement that RRR bagged two nominations at this year's Golden Globes. One of Best Foreign Pictures becoming the fifth Indian-produced movie to earn the nomination. The other is for the best original song for Naatu Naatu.

Now the Golden Globe's nominees and winners have often been seen as future predictions for that year's Academy Awards nominations and Winners and while that is not often the case because of how both communities classify their award categories, it is on the less a good gage to measuring movies popularity with Hollywood critics.

The Golden Gobles are voted on by the members of The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which consist of 105 members, and while it is not always the case their nominees do tend to at least get Oscar nominations.

After all, it is an indicator of what movies have a lot of buzz around them, like 2019's Parasite which won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign at the Golden Globals and went on to two Best Pictures at the Oscars.

The last Indian movie to be nominated for an Oscar was the 2001 movie Laagan, which was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and starred Amir Khan in the lead role.

So we find out what waits for RRR's fate at Gloden Globes when the award ceremony takes place on 11 January 2023. Meanwhile, The Academy Awards will announce their nominations on January 24, 2023.
