S.S. Rajamouli on rising Covid numbers hampering RRR release: " If nature says stop, we have to stop"

In the last few days, there has been a sudden rise in the number of COVID cases across the country. The number of active cases has begun to shoot up, and many feel that the third wave is now imminent. In fact, Delhi took a strict step and chose to shut down recreational spaces, including theatres. This hampered the release dates of films once again., with the release of Shahid Kapoor starrer Jersey being postponed from 31st December. However, even amidst the threat from COVID and theatres shutting down or operating at limited capacities, SS Rajamouli has decided to go ahead with the decided release date for RRR - 7th January. Many had been contemplating that he might have to postpone the release as well. Now, the director has opened up about it.

Talking to ETimes, Rajamouli addressed the speculations around the release date of the film and assured that the film will release on the scheduled date- 7th January worldwide in theatres. He also added, "I think about the problems that are in my hand, that I can solve. COVID, pandemic, or Omicron or whatever are things that are not in our hands, that are in nature's hand. If nature says stop, we have to stop. If it says pause, we have to pause and if it says play, we have to play. So I won't worry about things which are not in my hand."

Well, given the current situation, chances of postponing the release date seem more likely, though we would wholeheartedly hope that the number of cases comes down soon, and life gets back to being closer to normal. RRR has been a film that audiences have eagerly been waiting for, and it has also been considered by trade experts as a film that will revive theatres across the nation. However, if the makers do decide to release the film in theatres in the face of increased infections and limited capacity in theatres, and closure in many parts- it would be a loss for many. We hope things get better soon.
