Superstar Rajinikanth turns 72; Kamal Hassan, Dhanush, Dulquer Salmaan and more pay tribute to the legend

    Many actors from across the country extended their wishes via social media as the superstar turned 72.

    Rajinikanth celebrated his 72 birthday today, In a career spanning five decades with 160 movies under his belt and countless awards the actor is a living legend.

    Many celebrities including Kamal Hassan, Dhanush , Mohanlal, and Dulqueer Salmaan took to social media to pay tribute to the actor.

    The actor began his career in 1975 with the film Apoorva Raagangal in which he had a minor role, his first breakthrough came in 1976 with the romantic drama Moondru Mudichu in which we shared the screen with Kamal Hassan.

    The 1977 Chilakamma Cheppindi was his first leading role, through the 1970s the actor established himself by acting in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.

    However, it was the 1980 action movie Murattu Kaalai directed by S. P. Muthuraman that established him as an action hero and cemented his position as a superstar.

    Currently, the actor is preparing for the release of his next project Jailer, an action-comedy movie directed by Nelson.

    Jailer will be the best time Rajinikanth will be working with director Nelson, The director's last movie was the Beast which starred Vijay in the lead role. Jailer also marks the Tamil debut of Kannada actor Shiva Rajkumar.

    A special tribute video featuring Rajinikanth's character Muthuvel Pandian will be released today at 6 pm via social media to celebrate the occasion.

    The movie was announced by Sun Pictures in February and production officially started in July with shooting taking place in Chennai, Hyderabad, and Coimbatore.

    The movie has an ensemble cast that includes Shiva Rajkumar, Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi, Yogi Babu, and Vinayakan.

    The music for the movie is composed by Anirudh, making it his third collaboration with Rajinikanth, after Petta and Darbar. Cinematography is handled by Vijay Kartik Kannan and R. Nirmal is in charge of the editing.

    Jailer will hit theaters worldwide on 14 April 2023 to coincide with the Puthandu festival.
