    Omar Sharif Passes Away at 83

    Egyptian actor Omar Sharif passed away on July 10. Steve Kenis, his agent said, “He suffered a heart attack this afternoon in a hospital in Cairo”. Omar was suffering from Alzheimer's which was diagnosed in May 2015. He was 83 years old.

    He started off with roles in Egyptian films. Born with the name Michel Shalhoub, Omar was known for his role in ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ and ‘Doctor Zhivago’. He was a nominee for an Academy Award and had three Golden Globe nominations. The actor also played the role of Genghis Khan and Che Guevara.

    Being a World-class Bridge player, Omar would sometimes postpone shootings to participate in bridge events. His Alzheimer’s had got to the point where he started having trouble remembering his most famous films. Omar has a son named Tarek who came under the spotlight in the wake of the Egyptian Revolution after he come out as gay and half-Jeweish.
