Exclusive: Atul Kulkarni calls Ajay Devgn starrer Rudra ‘completely indianized’; talks about remake culture

Actor Atul Kulkarni is all set to return to our screens with Disney + Hotstar ’s upcoming show Rudra : The Edge of Darkness. While Ajay Devgn will be seen in the titular role of DCP Rudraveer Singh aka Rudra, Atul is portraying the role of his cop friend Gautam. The psychological crime thriller series, which will premiere on OTT on 4th March, also stars Esha Deol and Raashi Khanna in pivotal roles. As we all know by now, Rudra is the Indian adaptation of British drama series Luther. Well, in an exclusive interview with Desimartini, Atul made it clear that their show is ‘completely indianized’.

When asked if the team felt any pressure about expectations that fans may have from them, considering that Rudra is based on the very popular Luther, Kulkarni shared, “No, not at all, because we absolutely knew that we are making an Indian show called Rudra. Though it is based on Luther, we were making a completely different show and that was very very evident in the script itself. So while we were shooting, I mean, we were shooting the script that we had written.”

While the ‘remake culture’ is quite popular in Bollywood, it is now creeping into the digital medium as well. Sharing his thoughts on the same, the Rang De Basanti actor stated, “Good story is a good story. And when it is proved to be a good story, then of course everyone wants that story to be told to their people and it is adapted. So naturally it is going to be different. So, like Rudra is completely indianized. The way we people are as Indians, you will see those people in Rudra, those conditions in Rudra.”

How excited are you for Rudra?
