The Boys is one of the most successful series in the world, the first two seasons were universally loved and critically well received.

The third season while receiving the same reception from the majority of the fans also led to serve online trolling and harassment for "being woke"

one actor, in particular, faced the brunt of the attacks; Erin Moriarty who plays Annie January aka Starlight on the show.

In season 3 Starlight finally speaks out against the abuse she had gone through under Homelander and the corruption at Vought by using social media.

For which she is harnessed on the show by hardcore supporters of Homelander and while Starlight is fictional Erin Moriarty is not.

And while her male co star did go though their share of online harassments, the degree to which the actress was targeted was disproportionate to say the least.

The actress shared an article by Instagram user @butcherscanary, that points out the misogynistic and hate that Starlight, and therefore Moriarty, has received online.

In the post, the actress writes

“I do feel paralyzed. I’ve put blood, sweat and tears into this role (over & over & over again), I’ve grown UP in this character’s shoes (*emphasis on grown-up — we change & evolve mentally AND physically),” Moriarty wrote. “So with that, I say: a) thank you to @butcherscanary b) this does break my heart — I’ve opened up a vein for this role and the misogynistic trolling is exactly what this role (Annie) would speak out against and c) everyone’s going through their own battle(s); let’s not add to that. I will never intentionally (and ESPECIALLY) publicly, add to yours.”

She ends the post by saying “This has only strengthened my empathy muscle and to anyone who comes at me: I see you, I don’t hate you, I only empathize and forgive.”

Many of her co stars including Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, and Laz Alonso have come out in support for the actress
