Ali Asgar has turned a new leaf in his television career by joining Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa 10’s line-up of celebrity contestants. Most fondly known for his role of ‘Dadi’ on Comedy Nights With Kapil, Ali quit Kapil Sharma’s comedy troop after the debut season of The Kapil Sharma Show in 2017 and seems to have given away his strong reason for quitting the show on the Jhalak stage.

Ali was surprised by his kids Nuyaan Asgar and Ada Asgar in the recent episode of Jhalak which made the actor emotional. Joining via a video call, Ali’s kids revealed how they were bullied in school for the cross dressing roles that Ali was doing on the comedy show. The character may have made Ali a household favourite as ‘Dadi’ but he eventually quit playing a woman on shows after his son questioned him, ‘Aapko aur kuch nahi aata?’

Ada revealed that kids from her school teased her saying she has two mothers and even made tattoos mocking Ali’s crossing dressing roles. She, however, said that being trolled didn’t bother her as she was proud of her father’s work.

The actor who has made an appearance as ‘Dadi’ on Jhalak, revealed that after cross dressing for one show, he’d usually get offers to play a woman. He added recalling the instance that made his son walk away from him, “One day while we were eating on a Saturday when we saw an advertisement that said Ali and (an another actor) are working together. While Ali will be seen as ‘Bahu’, the other actor will be a cop. My son just looked at me and asked, ‘Aapko kuch aur aata nahi hai?’ I asked, ‘Why? What happened?’ He told me, ‘Everyone teases me in school’. I ignored it. In Sunday’s episode, I again acted as a female. He (my son) walked out. That’s when I realise maybe I should not do it. I kept on refusing work. For nine months, I was without work because I was getting this work only."

Ali went on to be a part of several other comedy shows on television after The Kapil Sharma Show and even continued cross dressing in a few.
