Actor-poet-writer Shailesh Lodha who had essayed the role of Taarak Mehta in the popular long-running comedy show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has won a lawsuit against the show’s producer Asit Modi. The lawsuit was regarding non-payment of dues with the verdict coming out in May this year. As a result of the settlement, Modi will have to pay a sum of Rs 1,05,84,000 via demand draft to Shailesh.

Shailesh Lodha exited Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah last year in April and was reportedly not given his dues of almost Rs 1 crore. Shailesh approached the National Company Law Tribunal for the matter. The issue was heard under Section 9 of the insolvency and bankruptcy code. The case was settled through a virtual hearing as per the consent terms by the counsel for the parties.

The actor spoke to Etimes about the same and expressed his happiness about the verdict expressing his gratitude to the tribunal. Shailesh Lodha said that the fight was never about the money but about self-respect and seeking justice. He added that he feels like he has won a happy and that justice has prevailed. Lodha also talked about how things turned ugly between him and the makers of the show after his exit.

He said that Asit Modi wanted him to sign some papers to clear his dues. There were several clauses in the papers including Shailesh Lodha being denied to speak to the press regarding the matter but the actor protested against the same. He found it wrong for him to sign papers to get his rightfully earned dues.

Not only this but Shailesh Lodha also said that his winning this lawsuit helped another former cast member of the show to get his dues. Even though Shailesh did not name the actor, he said that this cast member was also not given his dues for over three years. However, after Shailesh filed the lawsuit, the production house cleared the dues of this former cast member.
