Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the third season of Panchayat, which stars Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta, and Raghubir Yadav, among others. Lead actor Jitendra Kumar's character in the series was compared to Shah Rukh Khan in Swades. And now the actor has reacted to this comparison.

Jitendra Kumar on his character being compared to Shah Rukh Khan in Swades

During an interview with Pinkvilla, Jitendra said that in the first season, the team of Panchayat had doubts that his character Abhishek might seem similar to that of Shah Rukh Khan’s character in Swades because he is also someone who goes to a village reluctantly for a few days. "But we took that trait of the character as inspiration and used it in the first season. The comparison was never used as a hurdle to break away. Rather, it was used in the series as per our liking," Jitendra said.

Adding to this, Jitendra said, “In fact, mujhe toh bahot pasand hai Swades (I really like Swades). I was very excited to do something like that.”

How Jitendra gets back into the skin of the character after long breaks

Speaking about how he maintains continuity in his characters after taking long breaks, Jitendra said that continuity should first be in the script. It should not seem like the character was doing something in season two and is doing the complete opposite in season three. He added that there could be different motives for his actions, but it is important to maintain the character's space as an actor. He said that before commencing shooting, he watched two or three episodes of the previous seasons. The rehearsals that they do also help him get back into his character.

Starring Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, and Faisal Khan, among others, Panchayat Season 3 will premiere on May 28 on Amazon Prime Video. The third season follows the local body elections for a new pradhan, which creates two rival groups in the village. Jitendra Kumar plays Abhishek Tripathi, a sachiv in a village called Phulera.
