'How quick she is to grab some glory!': Jaya Bachchan faces backlash over her statement on RRR song Naatu Naatu's Oscar win

Veteran actor and politician Jaya Bachchan is grabbing eyeballs for her recent statement over India’s two wins at the prestigious 95th Academy Award. While the Naatu Naatu song from RRR bagged the award in the Best Original Song category, Guneet Monga’s The Elephant Whisperer won Best Documentary Short at the Oscars. She stated that the Telugu film’s win was India’s win, not South India’s.

"I am so happy and I am so glad that we are discussing the most important ambassadors of this country. And they are the film folks. It doesn't matter where they are from – north, east, south or west – they are Indians... I stand here with pride and with dignity for our film fraternity, who have represented this country number of times, have won a number of awards starting from Satyajit Ray onwards," she said in the Parliament which has now sparked South Vs Bollywood debate on social media.

While some social media users called the Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham actress a hypocrite for basking in the glory of South Indian cinema for credits. Others just slammed the Bollywood industry of which she is part. “I am afraid Bollywood has lost all relevance and is trying to bask in the glory of south Indian cinema. The movies are well made with an excellent story line, and they do not have any hidden agenda to spread,” wrote one of the users. “Itni hypocrisy laate kaha se ye Bollywood wale…. Agar saari Indian cinema hai to Jaya Bhaduri ye bataye ki unhone ya Amitabh Bachchan ne kitni Telgi, Tamil ya kannad movies me kaam kiya hai?” asked another user. “How quick she is to grab some glory!” reacted one of the Twitter users. Another added, “Her sorrow is that none from family got Oscar.” Check out the reactions here:
