Kiran Rao’s directorial film Laapataa Ladies has been garnering all the buzz for its quirky subject. But do you know that superstar Aamir Khan also auditioned for a pivotal role in the film? However, that role eventually went to Bhojpuri star Ravi Kishan. In a recent promotional interview, Kiran opened up on why her ex-husband could not find a place in the movie.

Talking about the same, in a press conference in Delhi, Kiran said, “We wanted to test him.” She added, “It was my idea to get him. Aamir liked the role a lot and wanted to do it. It's a small film, and we wanted to make it believable and real. And when you add a star to it, the balance gets disturbed. There'll be expectations that the stars will do something special."

She said that Aamir’s audition was inevitably good but ultimately they went with Ravi because he added more authenticity to the character. The director said, “Aamir gave an audition for this role, and it was very good. But Ravi ji brings something else, an authenticity, a depth in his performance. Aamir and I thought it would be right for this role."

Well, we are sure it would have been exciting to witness Aamir in Laapataa Ladies. The film revolves around a comedy of errors after two brides get lost from a train. It is set against the backdrop of rural India. The movie stars Ravi Kishan, Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Rantra, Sparsh Shrivastava, and Chhaya Kadam in the lead roles. It is all set to release in the theatres on March 1, 2024.

Rao’s last directorial venture included the 2010 film Dhobi Ghat. It also starred Aamir in an important role. Laapataa Ladies has been produced by Aamir Khan Productions. For the unversed, Kiran and Aamir announced their divorce in July 2021 but remain the thick of friends and co-parents to their son Azad.
