The MCU is back on track.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 has overtaken Ant-Man 3 at the box office and finally brought the MCU back on track.
Ant-Man 3 which was the first movie in the fifth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe received mixed reviews from critics and fans and underperformed at the box office.
The third installment in the Ant-Man franchise grossed 475 million dollars worldwide during its theatrical run.
As for GOTG 3, the movie managed to gross 60 million on its second weekend in theaters bringing its total gross to 528 million, making it the fourth highest-grossing movie of the year.
Currently, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is the highest-grossing movie in the trilogy with 869 dollars, so it remains to be seen if the third installment can top that record.
In the movie, the guardians will be facing off against the High Evolutionary(Chukwudi Iwuji) a genius scientist who is obsessed with genetic modifications and wants to unlock the next step in evolution.
He has altered himself thus giving himself super strength and speed as well as the power to evolve and devolve lifeforms at will, making him one of the most powerful villains the team has faced.
And of course, fans are also hyped for the MCU debut of Adam Warlock(Will Poulter), who was created by Sovereign as the perfect being and who has now been tasked with finding and killing the guardians.
The movie will be the last GOTG movie directed by James Gunn, who will be busy now that he is running DC Studios along with Peter Safran.
The director had hinted that this will be the last time we see the original Guardians team up hinting at the death of one or more beloved characters.
The movie boasts a star-studded cast that includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, Michael Rooker, Elizabeth Debicki, and Bradley Cooper.
