Selfiee trailer: A lite version of Shah Rukh Khan's Fan set in an Akshay Kumar universe

Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi are ready to lock horns on the big screen in February and the trailer of their film Selfiee is out now. The film about an adherent fan turning his back on the superstar he idolises looks like a lite version of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Fan set in an Akshay Kumar universe.

The trailer opens on a familiar note, where Akshay playing a superstar seems very much in sync with his real life persona as he lists out the number of projects keeping him busy in a year. While we have to wait to see what more his on screen character has in store, it looks like that the writers of Selfiee didn’t stray far in looking for a superstar to base Vijay Kumar’s personality on.

Akshay can be seen in full form playing one of the biggest action superstars in the country while Emraan is a cop to whom the actor is next to God. All Emraan wants is a selfie with Akshay’s character in lure of getting him a driver’s license, but getting humiliated in front of his son by his idol makes his character decide to bring the celebrity’s ego down a notch.

Emraan turning from a fan to an anti-fan is what pulls the story of Raj Mehta directed Sefliee forward, as the cop has to face the wrath of the fan groups in a very real way while being determined to teach Akshay’s character a lesson.

Selfiee promises action, comedy and drama in one neat package and that’s mostly what distances the film from Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan which was a full on serious thriller, despite the similarity in the plot.

The movie which also stars Nushrratt Bharuccha and Diana Penty will arrive in cinemas on February 24. Selfiee is a remake of Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu starrer Malayam movie Driving License.
