The new 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' BTS video gives us an inside look at how the team brought the magnum opus to life

The latest BTS video from the upcoming sequel gives us an inside look at how composer A.R. Rahaman and his team created magnificent music for the movie.

A.R. Rahman is expected to perform live at the upcoming trailer and music launch for Ponniyen Selvan 2. The recently released first single from the movie titled Aga Nga has crossed over 9.5 million views on Youtube in less than 5 days.

The lyrics for the Tamil version were written by Ilango Krishnan and sung by Shakthisree Gopalan. The song is a romantic melody that focuses on the love between princess Kundavai played by Trisha Krishnan and Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyathevan played by Karthi.

Ponniyen Selvan was a huge critical and commercial success becoming the highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2022 and the fifth highest-grossing Tamil movie of all time with a total box office collection of 500 crores.

The movies are based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel, Ponniyin Selvan, Which focuses on the Chola dynasty specifically Rajaraja Chola and his rise to power.

The franchise was long thought to be unadaptable for the big screen with countless stars and producers trying and failing over the years including MGR and Kamal Hassan.

Veteran director ManiRatnam has been trying for years to get the movie made and finally got the project in motion in 2019.

Official production for the movie started on December 11, 2019, in Thailand with a budget of 500 crores, and both part 1 and part 2 were shot back to back. Production wrapped on March 2022.

The movie's narration was done by Kamal Haasan In Tamil, Anil Kapoor in Hindi, Rana DaggubatiIn Telugu, Prithviraj Sukumaran in Malayalam, and Jayanth Kaikini in Kannada.

Ponniyin Selven boasts of an ensemble main cast that includes Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Prabhu. 

The supporting cast includes R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, R. Parthiban, Babu Anthony, Lal, Riyaz Khan, and Nassar.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 will hit theaters worldwide on April 28th, 2023.
