‘Oh she is fat, she is looking older than Anuj’: Rupali Ganguly reveals being shamed for Anupamaa, hits back at trolls

The versatile Rupali Ganguly is undoubtedly one of the most well known and adored actresses on television. After winning hearts with her relatable character and comic timing in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, she went on to do many other TV shows. But it was with her super hit series Anupamaa that Rupali became a household name. She won several awards for her beautiful portrayal of Anupamaa and even became a social media sensation when her epic dialogue ‘Aapko Kya’ emerged as a trend for Instagram reels. But despite receiving so much love, she was also brutally trolled.

In a recent chat with ETimes, Rupali revealed that even though there are several fans who love her on-screen jodi with Anuj aka Gaurav Khanna , many have age shamed him for romancing a younger actor. Some trolls even body shamed her on social media by calling her a ‘fat lady’. But Rupali does not let these unnecessary remarks bother her, because she is proud of who she is. In fact, Rupali feels she has earned each and every wrinkle that is being pointed out by these haters.

Rupali was quoted saying, “I even got comments on social media, "Oh she is fat, she is looking older than Anuj (Gaurav Khanna)." Yes I am older than him in real life. I think he's going to be 41 and I am going to be 45. I am proud of it. We play Anuj and Anupamaa on the show and are shown at the same age. Am I not doing 100 percent justice to my role?” She went on to hit back at trolls and said, “Let's talk about my work. If you think I am not up to the mark, point that out, I'll work on them.”

It truly is sad to see the downside of popularity that even a beloved actress like Rupali has to face. More power to her for keeping her head held high through it all!
