Dhaakad: After no takers at ticket windows, Kangana Ranaut's actioner struggles to sell OTT and satellite rights?

Bollywood fans have become quite difficult to impress in the post pandemic era and seem to be buying tickets for nothing other than wholesome entertainers to watch in cinemas. Kangana Ranaut ’s Dhaakad became the latest causality at the ticket windows after the actioner failed to find any takers in cinemas in a clash against Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2.

Not only were the shows for Dhaakad replaced with more screens being given to Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 after the film’s dull weekend, latest reports suggest that the makers haven’t yet been able to secure a digital partner for the movie’s OTT release and are also struggling to sell the satellite right of the project.

Having made close to Rs. 3 crores in the five days since its release, this mega-budget actioner is apparently finding no takers in the OTT market. A Bollywood Hungama source has claimed that the makers of the movie had decided to hold off selling digital and satellite rights of the movie for after its theatrical release in hopes for a bigger deal.

However, the movie after its shocking dismissal from cinemas is yet to find a home on any OTT platform while talks are reportedly on with Amazon Prime Video . The movie’s satellite rights also haven’t been sold due to the film’s ‘A’ rating which will mean a round of re-certification for the project, a task which no channel reportedly wants to take up.

Dhaakad’s distributor Zee Studios might eventually help the movie find a release on Zee 5 and Zee Cinema if nothing else pans out. The sale of these rights at good prices before release often helps to cushion the blow of a flop for producers but in the case Dhaakad the losses may be staggering if no deal comes through.

The film led by Kangana and also starring Arjun Rampal and Divya Dutta has reportedly been made on a budget of Rs. 80 – 90 crores.
