Yamla Pagla Deewana is a movie meant strictly for 5-8 year olds and maybe chimpanzees, who want to see one of their own shine on the big screen.
The movie starts of well enough with Dharam and Bobby being a father & son con team. Sunny plays the straightforward elder son who lives in the UK. In an attempt to trick a rich businessman the duo arrive in the UK and Bobby pretends to fall in love with the tycoon’s daughter. But Sunny is the tycoon’s manager. The rest all descends into mayhem as the men try to woo the tycoon’s real daughter (not the one Bobby is supposed in love with) and invent enough twists and turns to drive you crazy. Throw in the chimp and you can tear your hair out. Wait sorry, the chimp is ok. There is also Anupam Kher in a blonde wig, who goes by the name of Dudeji and his sidekicks Catwoman and Johnny Lever. Oh wait, there are also Sumo wrestlers and karate champions You get what I’m saying now?
The basic story of two cons and a straight guy is funny but you can’t stretch it out over 2 hours and 40 minutes. There are approx. 2.4 jokes in this duration that are actually funny so you do the math.
Dharmendra looks old, Bobby needs a hair transplant and maybe a neck lift. Sunny is the only one who is really watchable, if at all. The girls are superfluous.
I liked the song with the title credits though. It is about the only fun thing in the movie but I don’t think anyone will last that long.
Wait for it to show on TV. Plonk the kids in front of it and go have a nice evening out yourselves with some adult entertainment.view less
